Tony Cragg is so prolific and his sculpture uses such a variety of materials that it’s easy to imagine him covered in crap hammering away in a gritty workshop. But this picture shows him clean and well dressed in an organised space of almost religious purity; a space in Wuppertal, Germany that has twenty full time workers turning Cragg’s thoughts into materials:
“What I try to use the studio for is what I call ‘thinking with material’. To do that you need an arena. You need a page to write on. You need a space to work in. That is what a studio is.”

Tony Cragg es tan prolífico y utiliza en sus esculturas tal variedad de materiales que es fácil imaginarle cubierto de mierda aporreando algo en un un taller roñoso. Pero en esta foto se le ve limpio y bien vestido en un espacio organizado y de una pureza casi religiosa; un espacio en Wuppertal, Alemania que cuenta con veinte empleados a tiempo completo dedicados a convertir los pensamientos de Cragg en materiales:
“Para lo que intento utilizar el estudio es para lo que yo llamo ‘pensar con material’. Para hacer eso necesitas un ámbito. Necesitas un folio sobre el que escribir. Necesitas un espacio en el que trabajar. Eso es lo que es un estudio.”
